The National Commission on Arts and Letters was established in 1973 by National President Lillian Benbow. The mission of the Arts and Letters Committee of the Murrieta-Temecula Area Alumnae Chapter (MTAAC) is directly aligned with that of the National Commission on Arts and Letters.  MTAAC seeks to inform the community about the major initiatives of the National Commission on Arts and Letters by sharing and promoting art, movies, television shows, and literature that elevates the black community and is performed by black artists.
